Mid-Month Inspiration at Stamping Sensations

Hello there,

It's my turn to offer some mid-month inspiration at Stamping Sensations by trying something new.  Now, I've always wanted to have a go at stamping on candles but I've never got round to it before, so here goes :)  I checked out a couple of videos on You Tube before I started to see how people had coloured their images.  As you need to stamp and colour tissue paper, it's a very delicate operation.

As our theme this month is 'One for the Girls,' I thought I'd opt for something floral as we all love our flowers, so I chose to use 'Rose Bloom' by Stacey Barras as it was a really good fit for the candle that I was using.

I decided to use my Stamping Press as I wasn't quite sure how well the Stazon Ink would print onto the tissue paper.   Here is the process, step by step in photos:

Stamped twice onto tissue paper with Stazon ink

Delicately coloured using Derwent Inktense pencils

I got very brave at this stage and used a damp water brush to intensify the colour.
I also used a red colour brush to darken some of the red areas.

Next, I cut out the image, leaving just a little white tissue showing around the image.

I laid the cut out image over the candle and wrapped a piece of baking parchment tightly around the candle.  Using a heat gun to adhere the tissue paper to the candle, it was like embossing magic as you can see the wax melting as you move along.  It's important to keep your heat gun moving so as not to create any holes with the hot wax, it all happens very quickly.

The end result!
I added a piece of ribbon and a matching bow around the base of the candle to add the finishing touch.

For a first attempt, I'm very happy with the end result, although I would like to have another go and just leave it at the stage where it's been coloured with the pencils as I think that would give a subtle sketchy look.

I've thoroughly enjoyed trying a new technique (For me) and I hope that I just might have inspired you to have a go if you've never tried stamping on candles before.

Happy Crafting,
Sandra x

Hello there,

I do hope that you've all enjoyed the Easter break.

I'm here today to share a few of the samples that I made for Crafty Individuals when they were on Hochanda last week.  The stamps are beautiful to work with and the hardest thing for me is having to stop making cards!  Here they are:

One For The Girls at Stamping Sensations

Hello there my crafty friends,

It's time for a new challenge over at Stamping Sensations and out theme this time is 'One For The Girls.'  I thought long and hard about what stamps I would like to use for this challenge and then I remembered a stamp that I haven't used for quite a while called 'Fashion Girl Vintage Fifties' by Flonzcraft and I think it hits the brief really well.  Here's my card:

I started by stamping the girl and the mirror with Versafine and then I used a clear embossing powder over it.  I masked off my images and then used red Brushos to create the background.  I used a Tim Holtz die cut on the corners and then mounted the card on to a piece of red card to give some contrast.  I added some gold peel offs and a ribbon to the mirror to make it stand out a little more.  The sentiment stamp that I've used is from an old stamp set by Crafter's Companion but I thought that it worked well with my glamour girl.

We are very generously sponsored this month by Gordon and Justin at:
Once Upon a Stamp
and the lucky winner will receive a £25 gift voucher to spend at their online store

Stamping Sensations is a stamping challenge, so we must see a stamped image, sentiment or quote as the focal element of your artwork, this means: Stamping must be the central point of attention and interest.

All the details of our challenge rules can be found here

Please note:  If we don't comment on your entry it will be because it doesn't follow our theme to qualify under our rules, or because we are asked to sign in or provide additional data to comment on third part hosts such as Instagram, Flickr or Facebook etc.  We really don't want to be rude but we do want to be fair to those who follow the rules.

That's all from me for now, so I'll wish you a happy and peaceful day x

This is one of my favourites and I hope you like it too.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter x

Rudolph Day - March 18

Hello there,

I don't know if it's just me or is someone out there making all the clocks move faster?  It's 'Rudolf  day' again and if my calculation is right, then that's almost a quarter of the year gone already!  Where is all of this time going?

The card that I'd like to share with you today is one that I've made before but I've changed the colour again and made it blue this time.  Hope you like it:

The stamps and stencil are by Inkylicious and the embossing folder was free with a crafting magazine a couple of years ago.

I'm adding this to the 'Rudolph Day Challenge' over at Scrappy Mo's. and also to:

Card for a Friend

Hello there,

It seems like ages since I blogged but the last couple of weeks have been busy ones with one thing and another.  Crafty Individuals have a few shows coming up shortly, the first two being on the 29th of March, so I've been making some samples with their lovely stamps and papers.

It was lovely to see some sunshine yesterday and it actually felt like Spring had arrived.  Then my hairdresser said that we are likely to have more snow over Easter.........Noooo, enough is enough!  I'm ready for blue skies and a touch of sunshine now.

I thought I'd share a card with you today that I made for my blogging friend Leanne as it was her birthday a short while ago:

The Baroque Splatter Script stamp is by Crafty Individuals and the butterfly and sentiment are by Inkylicious.  The background was made using Distress Oxide inks.

That's all from me today, so I'll wish you all a very happy and colourful weekend x

Heron Reflection on Black Card

Hello there,

How are you all today? Good I hope!

When Inkylicious were Hochanda last month, Emma did a fantastic demo of stamping onto black card, using white ink as a base for the colour.  I loved the card so much that I've had a go at recreating it.  My colours aren't as vibrant as Emma's were but I think that's because my white ink pad ins't as wet as it should be. Here's my offering:

The stamps and stencils that I've used on this card can be found  can be found here.

I'd like to add this card into the following challenges:

Penny Black and More - Feature a Creature
The Artistic Stamper - Stencils and Masks
Rubber Dance - March Challenge (Colour)
Time Out Challenge - Bold

Forest Friends at Stamping Sensations

Hello there,

It's time for our new challenge over at Stamping Sensations.  The theme this month is 'Forest Friends' and what fun I've had making this card:

I love my 'Green Man' stamp from Make Your Mark in York but I don't get much chance to use it really, so this was a great opportunity.  I started by stamping him with Impress Olive Green and then water colouring him before over stamping the image with Distress Walnut stain. Next, I used a Clarity mask to create more interest in the background.  I created the hills before going on to colour the sky.  I stamped the rabbits directly onto the card and the rest of the animals were stamped, coloured and then fussy cut.  I think this gives them a little more dimension and I could place them where I wanted.

The tress and branches are stamps by Inkylicious and the animals came free with a craft magazine that I bought last year.  I really love these animals, especially the deer.

Here is this month's fabulous prize:
Ribbon storage box, ribbons, bow makers and inspiration book

Rudolf Day February 18

Hello there on this very cold and snowy day.

I'm here a little later than usual with my 'Rudolf Day' post as I completely forgot about it but better late than never as they say!

The card I'd like to share with you today is made using a Penny Black stamp that I received for my birthday recently.  I'm a great fan of tree stamps and I just couldn't resist this one:

The background was made using Distress inks and Glycerine.  This is a new technique for me so I though I'd give it a try and I'm happy with the result.  I've added glitter to the snowy parts although it doesn't show too well in this photo. The Deer are by Memory Box.

I have a busy day today but I'll try to catch up with my commenting as soon as I can.  Until then, stay warm and happy x

It's All About The Light Bulb

Hello there on this Sunday morning,

I do hope that your weekend is going well and that you might find some time today to do something that makes you happy x

I'm here with a few more of my Inkylicious samples and I do hope that you're enjoying them.  The ones that I'm sharing with you today are made using the new 'Create A Light Bulb' stamps and the elements that can be used within it.  Here goes:

I've seen quite a few light bulb stamps around but I really like these are they are left empty so that you can choose to use other of your favourite stamps within them.  They also come with the elements and various inspirational words if you just want to keep them a little more traditional.  The first two cards are made using Brusho and stamps from the 'Create A Light Bulb Element' set.  The last card just had to be done as I just love the Winter Cabin stamp.  The background on this card was made using the 'Splatter Circle XL' stamp.  I've used Oxide Inks which I think give such vibrant colours and are just perfect for the Northern Lights.

As you can see, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with these wonderful new stamps and the possibilities with them are endless.  I'll be back mid-week to share the last remaining few samples, until then, take care and be happy x

I would like top enter my first card into the following challenges:
The Artistic Stamper - Use the colour RED

I would like to enter my third card into the following challenges:
Allsorts - I spy something beginning with 'B'.
My 'B' is for the Bulb and for  the colour Blue in the background

I just wanted to let you know that Inkylicious will be on Hochanda today from 2 - 4pm.  It's been quite a long while since they've been on telly and I was thrilled when Deby asked if I could help out in making a few samples for their show.

Anything With Flowers at Stamping Sensations

Hello there my crafty friends,

It's time for a new challenge at Stamping Sensations and our theme this time is 'Anything With Flowers.'  Here's my card:

I started by stamping and embossing the BEAUtanical Lily by Bee Crafty.  I then coloured it using Derwent Inktense pencils.  The background was created by using various Distress/Distress Oxide inks and stencils.

We are very kindly sponsored this month by 'Bee Crafty' and the lucky winner will receive a £25 gift voucher.

I was lucky enough to meet Bev from Bee Crafty at the Stamp Magic show at Doncaster last October and she's such a lovely person, so friendly and just as you see her on telly.  It was really nice to be able to thank her in person for sponsoring our challenge.  It was also a good excuse for me to add a few Bee Crafty stamps to my collection.   If you've never tried them before, then I would definitely advise giving them a go.  I am really impressed with them and they leave such a good impression, fabulous packaging too.

I do hope that you'll be able to join us in this month's challenge but please remember that Stamping Sensations is a stamping challenge, so we must see a stamped image as the focal element of your artwork, not just a stamped sentiment or stamping in the background, this means:
Stamping must be the central point of attention and interest.

Published in Craft Stamper - February 18

Hello there,

Before I start this post, I would just like to say a big thank you for the many kind comments that I received on my Crafty Individuals samples.  I just wanted you all to know that your kind words are always very much appreciated.

I few months back, I was asked by Jean Hardy of 'Crafty Individuals' if I would like to make a couple of projects for 'Craft Stamper' magazine, and of course, the answer was yes.  Jean made a lovely box and there were two more beautiful projects made by my lovely Teamie Florence Langley.  Jean wanted us to use any of her tree stamps and the bird stamps that were recently released, other than that, it was left to us to create what we wanted to.  It's been so cold recently that I decided to create a winter scene and the stamps that I used were just perfect for this. Don't the sheep look right at home in the snow!

The background was made using Distress Inks and the stamps featured are:

My Second Project
I wanted this project to represent the coming of spring and the warmer days ahead.  These colours here are very true, as the image in the magazine looked a little bleached out.
Featuring:  CI-453CI-478

The background was made using Distress Oxides, StazOn and tissue paper.  The back was made using Crafty Individuals paper, Versafine and white acrylic paint.

My thanks go to Jean for giving me this opportunity and to Craft Stamper magazine for featuring my two projects.

Wishing you a happy day and I'll be back with you on Sunday morning when we have a new challenge starting over at Stamping Sensations x
